The Laboratory at Oconee Regional Medical Center feels much like a “proud parent” these days. Recently, the Bacteriology division in the hospital’s Lab assisted two local students with their science fair projects, and these students have been selected to compete at the regional level at Georgia College and State University on February 2, 2007.
Keith Grant, Microbiology supervisor, says both projects were done by Georgia Military College Prep students. “Matthew Harrison’s project compared three different types of bandages that have anti-bacterial agents on them, and John Robert Grant’s project investigated the cleaner used to disinfect sports equipment to guard against staph infection among athletes.
The Lab assisted the students by giving them direction on the lab techniques and equipment used to perform their experiments.
Grant says, “This is something that we assist with each year. As a community hospital, we are happy to give back to our community in this way. We wish Matthew and John Robert the very best of luck in the upcoming regional science fair.”
