You will report to the Admitting area on the 1st floor of Park Tower, Oconee Regional Medical Center.
Purpose :
This test evaluates the function and performance of your heart while under stress. Due to some risks associated with this test, it requires your informed consent. Your physician or the supervising physician will answer any questions you may have.
Preparation:
Do not have anything to eat or drink for at least 8 hours prior to this examination. No foods containing caffeine such as coffee, including decaffeinated coffee, chocolate, tea, soda pop for at least 24 hours.

Do not smoke (4) hours prior to test. If your test will be an exercise stress test, wear comfortable clothing and shoes for exercise.

Some medications may interfere with this test. Please check with your physician as to which medications you may take prior to this test.
Procedure:
Depending on the testing protocol used, this test may be divided in several parts, and could require you be at the hospital for as long as four hours. The stress may be accomplished by having you either walk on a treadmill or, at the physicians’ discretion, by administration of a medication that briefly causes your heart to behave as though you were exercising (stress). If testing protocols include nuclear scanning, you will have parts of your test done in both the Cardiopulmonary and Nuclear Medicine areas. An IV will be placed in your arm or the back of your hand and heart monitor electrodes will be attached, like tape, to your chest during the stress test. Stress testing is always done under the direct supervision of a physician.
After Care:
You may resume all normal activities after the test. Follow up with your attending physician to discuss results. Results usually are available to the physician in 1-2 business days.
