On-Site Prevention Services

There are many prevention strategies that an employer can implement in an effort to reduce workplace injuries as well as improve non-occupationally-related lost time. The type of strategies selected may depend on the injury trends of the organization; however, there are also general wellness programs that can have both a positive impact on workplace injuries and improve the general health of the employee population.

The services below are all offered by NOH staff members upon request.

    Some strategies to consider:

    1. Pre-placement medical exams.
    2. Pre-placement functional screens.
    3. Job analyses to assess physical requirements of job tasks.
    4. Work station assessments - both computer and industrial.
    5. Risk analyses - assess what tasks present risk and how those risks can be minimized.
    6. NIOSH lifting equation - to support need for task modification and equipment purchases.
    7. Job coaching - to prevent re-injury upon return to work.
    8. Job rotation.
    9. Assistive devices for material or patient handling - lifts, hoists, carts, pallet pals, etc.
    10. Work practice protocols for high risk tasks.
    11. Series of exercises when using a computer.
    12. Work practice evaluation - recommendations on an individuals work behaviors.
    13. Supervisory training - for assisting well workers with work station setups.
    14. Body mechanics and back health training.

Scientific studies have shown that pre-placement examinations and functional screening reduce the severity of workplace injuries, therefore reducing lost time and medical expenses; and workers compensation costs were lowest for those employees with the lowest health risks (proper weight, non-smoking, blood pressure under control). Scientific references are available upon request. Feel free to call to obtain more information about how the above strategies can help you control rising healthcare costs.
