Ill & Injured Worker Care
Minor Illnesses and Injuries:
For minor work-related injuries and illnesses, the Northwestern Occupational Health (NOH) clinic (behind Northwestern Medical Center) routinely treats acute work-related injuries on a walk-in basis such as minor lacerations (we do suturing), burns, strains and sprains requiring immediate attention, and foreign bodies in the eye. Other minor injuries may be seen on a scheduled basis within 24-48 hours. Our staff is trained in Basic Life Support, more commonly known as CPR, and Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
Work-Related “911” Conditions which should be directed to the Emergency Dept:
- ELECTRICAL INJURY- with chest pain, large burns or confusion
- LOSS OF CONSCIOUSNESS- for any reason
- FALLS- with neck or back pain requiring ambulance transportation
- LACERATIONS- large/uncontrolled bleeding
Benefits of Non-Emergent Care through NOH
- Employees can be seen faster than at the Emergency Room because your workers are our priority.
- It is cheaper for you to send employees to NOH for care: NOH is at least 50% cheaper that the Emergency Department for non-emergent care.
- Employees treated at NOH have significantly fewer lost time days than the state average. This means higher productivity for your organization and less overall workers’ compensation costs.
- Our providers call you after each initial injury visit and after revisits when there is a significant change, to give you and update and the chance to ask questions. NOH focuses on early return to work for patients.
- One-Stop-Shopping: NOH offers comprehensive occupational health services, locally owned and operated, in response to local employers’ request for these specialized services.
NOH provides cost-effective injury care and works directly with companies on an on-going basis to return employees back to work as safely and quickly as possible.
