Respirator Clearance
Any employee who must wear a respirator at work is required to meet the criteria of the OSHA regulations governing respiratory medical clearance (29 CFR 1910. 134 and Appendix C – Respirator Medical Evaluation Questionnaire). Clearance may include a physical exam or other testing at the discretion of the Qualified Health Care Provider (QHCP) who reviews the questionnaire. NOH mid-level providers are generally the health care professionals who review questionnaires and they meet the QHCP guidelines.
    • NOH provides OSHA mandated respirator clearance exams, both initial and annual.
    • Working within OSHA regulations, NOH can customize a respirator clearance program to fit your company policy. This program can be provided on-site at your business, if requested, within certain volume guidelines.
    • This clearance consists of completion of the OSHA Respirator Questionnaire and possible PFT and focused physical exam, depending on results of the OSHA questionnaire.
    • NOH has clinicians who are NIOSH approved for pulmonary function testing and respiratory surveillance.
The following resources can assist you with your respiratory protection program. Companies may find it valuable to review NOH’s Respirator Medical Clearance policy. Prior to sending patients to NOH for respirator clearance, if they might be having a pulmonary function test (also called spirometry), you and the employee should review the Prescreening questionnaire below.
