 Dr. Backus performs many specialized services for the insurance and legal community which augment other services provided by Northwestern Occupational Health.
Independent Medical Evaluations
As a Certified Independent Medical Examiner, Dr. Backus is an expert in his field. Individuals are referred to him for a review of all previous medical care related to an injury or illness. A thorough medical examination with a review of available medical records and all diagnostic studies are performed; with the goal of providing independent answers to such questions as causality and impairment. The results of this review are documented in a complete report given to the requesting party. He may also be asked to provide treatment recommendations which may lead to case closure.
After a patient has reached medical end, Dr. Backus can also performs Permanency Ratings upon request, calculated from the AMA guidelines 5th edition.
Chart Reviews/Second Opinions/Consultations
Various forms of chart reviews are offered here at NOH. These reviews range from a total file review to answering specific questions; treatment plans options, causation or medical end. We also provide specific reviews addressing just one outstanding problem. These reviews are documented in a complete report given to the requesting party.
Expert Testimony
Since Dr. Backus is an expert in his field he is often asked to testify by deposition or in court regarding specific cases. This testimony can be preformed either in person or by telephone. Please call our office for specific rates.
