Tumor Registrar Credentialing
Henry A. Joaquin, an employee at Brazosport Regional Health System, has recently been awarded the Certified Tumor Registrar (CTRŽ) credential by the National Cancer Registrars Association’s (NCRA) Council on Certification.
In September 2008, Joaquin was one of 148 candidates who successfully completed a comprehensive written examination on principles of cancer data abstracting and registry management. Joaquin joins over 4,200 others worldwide who have met extensive education and work experience requirements for certification as a credentialed Cancer Registrar. This profession is dedicated to the collection of cancer data which is used to support clinical care of cancer patients and investigation in the causes and effective treatments for the many forms of this disease.
NCRA Council on Certification administers the semi-annual CTRŽ examination. Candidates must meet eligibility requirements that include a combination of experience in the registry field and educational background. After successfully passing the certification examination, the CTR credential is awarded. Persons who have successfully completed the certification examination have demonstrated that they have met or exceeded the standard level of experience and technical knowledge required for effective cancer data management.
