Radiation Therapy
Radiation therapy is the careful use of high-energy radiation to treat cancer. Radiation therapy damages cancer cells, which stops them from growing and dividing. If you and your doctor decide that radiation therapy is right for you, your doctor will develop a personalized treatment plan.
Brazosport Regional Cancer Center uses the latest technology to battle cancer. For radiation treatment, the cancer center uses the Elekta Synergy®, the world’s first radiation treatment system with an integrated 3D imaging system, enabling physicians to target the tumor more precisely and more accurately, resulting in fewer side effects. Our approach to cancer treatment has been developed with the patient’s need in mind. Our goal is to improve the patient’s quality of life and the chances for long-term survival.
Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy is the treatment of cancer with drugs that can destroy cancer cells by impeding their growth and reproduction. There are several different types of chemotherapy drugs including vein injection, injection into a body cavity, or the drug can be taken orally in the form of a pill.
Chemotherapy is different from surgery or radiation therapy in that the cancer-fighting drugs circulate in the blood to parts of the body where the cancer may have spread and can kill or eliminate cancers cells at sites great distances from the original cancer. If your doctor decides chemotherapy is the right step for you to undertake, they will provide a customized treatment plan based on your needs.
Surgery
Surgery can be used by itself or in combination with other treatment such as chemotherapy or radiation therapy. Surgery can be used to prevent, diagnose, determine the state, relieve symptoms, or remove the cancer. When removing the cancer, your doctor will go inside your body and remove the cancer along with the some healthy tissue in order to ensure that all of the cancer is removed. Brazosport Regional offers advanced laparoscopic cancer operations including but not limited to a full mastectomy, rectal cancer and splenectomy.
As with all cancer treatment, if your doctor decides that surgery is right for you, you will be informed of what to do before and after surgery in order to reduce any risk.
Ancillary Services
In order to help relieve pain or reduce symptoms, Brazosport Regional provides physical, occupational, and speech therapies and offers wound healing and lymphedema services.
