Ownership and Governance
Community Owned, Community Governed. Demonstration Hospital is a community-owned, non-profit regional hospital located in Brentwood, Tennessee. The Hospital is controlled by the Demonstration Hospital Authority, which was created on September 23, 1965, for public charitable purposes as established by section 501-c(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954. The facility's not-for-profit status ensures that all financial resources remaining after expenses are paid are legally committed to improving the technology, patient services, and facility. Any contribution that you may wish to make to support your hospital can be in the form of a tax-deductible gift, endowment, bequest, or trust. | The Hospital is governed by a eight-member, voluntary Board of Trustees, which represents a broad spectrum of professional, business, and community leaders. The Board is a self-perpetuating body that has authority to elect its new members. The Board members, whose only remuneration is in knowing that they have provided a service to the community, are dedicated to providing the best possible care available at the lowest cost to the consumer. Trustees are required to be county residents for at least one year and of legal voting age. Candidates are nominated by the Nominating Committee of the Board of Trustees and are appointed by the County Board of Commissioners. | |
The Board of Trustees determines hospital policy and provides direction and counsel on management, administration, planning, and development. Trustees are responsible for hospital compliance with applicable legal requirements, the maintenance of professional and ethical standards of health services, sound financial management and operation of Demonstration Hospital, and selection and appointment of a qualified medical staff.
Board meetings are held monthly, but Trustees also serve on a minimum of one of the four standing committees of the Board. In addition, Board education meetings are held monthly. These meetings are open to the public. Following is a list of the current Board members:

Demonstration Hospital boasts a strong, cohesive medical staff of Family Medicine, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, and Orthopedics practitioners, as well as Pediatrics Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants, in full-time practices. Visiting consultants include Cardiology, E.N.T., OB/GYN, Oncology, Ophthalmology, Optometry, Podiatry, Pulmonology, Radiology, and Urology practitioners. Physicians are free to operate in solo or group practice, or as hospital-employed providers.
The Hospital is guided by a continuous quality improvement philosophy that stresses leadership, commitment, a hospital-wide approach, customer and process focus, and employee involvement. |
